St. Francis of Assisi Greenwood, MS First Graders enjoy their treat.

A First grader learns many things over the course of the year; punctuation (what is a question mark?), counting by 5’s and 10’s (why?), and of course phonics and fluent reading (YES!).

There is a new teacher, and new friends, new books, new classroom adventures, even new foods or new ways of learning to eat old foods!

Today was perfect weather to enjoy the outside so the First Grade teacher picked up her science book and the students armed with their apple treats headed out. They settled to enjoy their fruit snack under the shade of the big white tent which is currently set up on our playground anticipating our Fall Festival this coming Saturday.

Last March our Cafeteria cook filled out an application for a grant for fruits and vegetables for the students. She received the grant from the State Department and has been providing St. Francis students four times a week with an afternoon treat. Today it was a whole apple. Which proved to be something to master!

With a loose tooth or missing teeth how do I attack this delicious apple?

With a loose tooth or missing teeth how do I attack this delicious apple?

This apple is good, but so hard to eat!

The First Graders are learning and growing and enjoying their many adventures great and small.
