Sister Mary Ann Tupy Principal of St. Francis of Assisi School Greenwood, Mississippi welcomed the parents of our students at the first annual parent meeting of the school year.
After the opening prayer Sister introduced the parents to Bishop Joseph Kopacz by way of a video of Sister Elena’s. This was followed by an introduction of Father Patrick, one of the four Redemptorists priests who will be serving the Hispanic community in the Delta.
Then followed the introductions of our Friars; Pastor Fr. Greg, Development Director Bro. Craig, Assistant Development Director Bro. Patrick and Assistant Pastor Fr. Adam. Next came Mr. Jerome Winston the Advisory Council President who addressed the parents concerning the duties of the Council. At this time Sister introduced the Faculty and staff of St. Francis.
Sister Mary Ann continued by presenting to the parents the newly organized “Geer” Store vision. This enthusiastic group of parents responsible for this vision were eager to share their ideas and hopes. The new spirit shirts, ties, bows were available for purchase and orders could be placed for the new uniform items.
We are retaining the existing uniform and transitioning over to an altered uniform. One which will distinguish us from other schools in the area. The “spirit” shirts are for “Spirit Day” and the dress uniforms are to be worn on days we have mass.
Next on the agenda was our first big fund raiser. “Fall Festival” September 27, 10 am to 4 pm. This will include a delicious catfish or chicken dinner, draw down with tickets for $50.00 each, bingo, silent and live auctions, music entertainment, carnival food and games for the children, garage sale and lots of fun and sharing.
No Fall parent meeting is complete without comments on the Diocesan Protection of Children program. Parents were encouraged to preview the lesson their child is being given in the classroom and dates for up coming training sessions were announced.
As the meeting closed Sister Kathleen and Elena enjoyed visiting with some of the parents and catching up on how much the wee little ones had grown over the summer.
