The Parents of some of our Students worked to create this year’s school float for the Greenwood Christmas Parade. The theme set for us was, “It’s A Wonderful Life”. George Bailey’s Bank and Trust became the central theme of this year’s float with the angel looking on over us all.
- Many hands worked in the mission shop.
- Parents met new parents and had a good time doing it.
All was in readiness; the float had arrived at the waiting location on the corner of Howard and Carrollton Avenues. The school King, Queen, Prince and Princess were in attendance, the judges had come by for the annual judging of floats and the clouds gathered over head..
- As the Angel watches over all.
- Bank your Blessings!
- Father Greg waits with some of our students.
- The court is excited and ready.
The streets were filling up as the parade started on the South side of Greenwood. Onlookers anticipated the fun and the sprinkles.
- Gathering in the shelter of awnings as they waited
- Young and old alike were out.
All now on the move, the floats of many local businesses, bands playing as they marched, dance troops performed and a new attraction of inflatables passes.
- Salvation Army, so active in town.
- Miss Mississippi and her court
- Greenwood Leflore Hospital
- Local bands prepared for rain.
- A huge candy cane!
- Horse and rain are not a good mix.
The rain came down more steadily as we walked on through the streets of down town Greenwood. Daylight turned to dusk and everyone anticipated the lights of the bridge which meant we were nearing the North side of town, Grand Boulevard. This also meant the parade route was nearing it’s completion.
- Ah! In the distance the bridge is in sight!
- Crossing over the Yalobusha River
- Committed to the end!
- We are now seriously wet and adding this to our list of memorable events in Greenwood, Mississippi!!
Now walking down Grand Boulevard the scenery changes and we notice the homes with their lights gracing our way nearer to the end of our parade route.
- Elegance seen in the lighting of this home.
- Lights reflected in the rain.
- Warmth glows from these windows.
We all were eager to get home, get some dry clothes on and take a good look at the trophy which had been give to the school along the route.
